"My family (crying) come to me whenever I play in the private gym. It was a shame that I just clapped on the bench."
Busan KCC once again defeated Anyang Cheonggwanjang 81-75 in the first round of the fifth round held on the 2nd. KCC met Cheonggwanjang in the last game of the previous fourth round and defeated him 108-99.
KCC shot 17 3-pointers in the previous game. Cheong Wa Dae also responded with 15 3-pointers. It was the game with 32 3-pointers, the most since the 3-point shooting distance increased to 6.75 m.
On this day, there were not as many 3-pointers as on this day. KCC decreased by 10 to just seven. However, in the neck-and-neck fourth quarter, they came close to winning with three 3-pointers. Among these three shots, Kwak Jung-hoon (9 points and four rebounds).
After his victory, KCC manager Jeon Chang-jin praised Kwak, saying, "He saved the team today (on the 2nd) at a difficult time," adding, "I feel good because he worked hard in the second division (D-League) and went up (as a regular league player) to win. It is quite encouraging that we have achieved such a driving force that we can do," adding, "We plan to give Kwak many opportunities in the future."
Song Kyo-chang, who assisted Kwak Jung-hoon's two three-point shots, said, "I played with Kwak Jung-hoon since I was young. He is a player who works really hard," adding, "It's nice to see that come out during the game." He said something similar to coach Jeon Chang-jin, "I think I won because I made a three-point shot when Jung-hoon was important."
Kwak Jung-hoon took the court in place of Lee Keun-hwi, who was sluggish in defense until the first half. Kwak missed two 3-pointers in the third quarter, but in the fourth quarter, he made two runaway 3-pointers and three game-tying 3-pointers.
Kwak Jung-hoon said in an interview with a broadcaster, "I always prepared hard for the game, but the coach gave me a chance. I will work harder and take this opportunity."
Asked how he usually trained, Kwak said, "I always studied what to do in matches while watching matches. I felt that I should work harder in defense than in offense, so I gained confidence in offense and defense. I was able to achieve this result because I was firm."
KCC players who do broadcast interviews are given water flogging. So was Kwak Jung-hoon.
Kwak Jung-hoon said, "I'll work harder and get more water."
Kwak Jung-hoon, who said it was his first interview since his debut, said, "My family (crying) whenever I play in the gym. I felt sorry for just clapping on the bench. I'll keep in touch with them and show you good performances starting today."
Kwak Jung-hoon said, "I will prepare harder than now and become a helpful player for the team. I will do my best to receive more calls as the fans always come and contact me often."
